Community Engagement
& Scholarship Fund Mission
The Iyengar Yoga Center of Vermont seeks to make yoga accessible to under-served individuals and groups in our neighborhood community and beyond. The aim of Iyengar yoga is to allow any individual, young or old, firm or weak, healthy or ailing to benefit from this practice for greater physical, mental and spiritual health.
Our vision is to develop financial resources through donations and grants to aid individuals and groups who may not have access to this resource. We believe it is through creating a truly accessible and inclusive yoga community that we find strength and support in our practice, both individually and as a community.
Donations and grants to the fund will help create:
-
full sessions of classes awarded to individuals with financial need
-
low-cost or no-cost classes for specific groups in the community
-
low-cost or no-cost private sessions for individuals with acute therapeutic needs
No amount is too small! Here’s how your donation might be used:
-
$25 helps one student participate in a group series
-
$75 allows an individual to get private treatment for a therapeutic condition
-
$100 pays for a whole session of classes for someone in financial need
Your donations will be used entirely to pay teachers for their time and to offset costs of the space, and never for anything else. However, please note that at this time since we are a for-profit business we can not offer any tax-exemptions on your donations. We thank you for being an active part of this community!
At the beginning and end of each session we offer the two study opportunities outlined below. Applications are accepted the week prior to the start of the session.
Session Scholarship
The IYCVT Scholarship and Community Engagement Fund is intended to aid students of any age and ability to attend classes and workshops that they might not otherwise be able to attend. The scholarship provides one weekly class for the whole session. All applicants will:
— have a strong interest in learning Iyengar yoga (though no experience is necessary).
— have financial hardship that would otherwise make attending regular classes challenging.
— agree to attend all classes in the session but may choose from any of the classes appropriate to their level.
Applications will be considered one week prior to the beginning of each session. To apply please send an email to rebecca@iycvt.com with the following information:
1. Name, address, telephone number, and email.
2. Experience with yoga in general and/or Iyengar yoga in particular (if any).
3. A short paragraph describing how this scholarship will help your practice.
Work Study
Current students may apply for a work study position. In exchange for 1-2 hours of work per week the chosen applicant can attend one class per week. Work study students will:
— be reliable and able to commit to the whole session
— be detail-oriented and be easily available by phone/text/email
Applications will be considered one week prior to the beginning of the session. Work study students may have the opportunity to continue with their work study over two or more sessions. To apply please send an email to rebecca@iycvt.com with the following information:
1. Name, address, telephone number, and email.
2. Experience with yoga in general and/or Iyengar yoga in particular (if any).
3. A short paragraph describing why you would be a good work study student.
